This is a great hostel. Everything is clean, the staff is really helpful and the food was good. It's located in such a peaceful and tranquil setting. The pub is awesome! It's really great how they have nightly activities to keep people entertained. Trivia night was a blast, and so was game night. The staff does a great job of involving eneryone!

Happy staff, great fun at the light hearted Quiz night. Breakfast reasonably priced and 'all you could eat' ....but the baked beans could have been hotter and it would be nice to have marmalade....but that's just minor stuff!

Hostel response:

Thanks for your kind review, our happy team are even happier to learn you enjoyed your stay! It is a shame you are not staying this week as we have homemade Rhubarb & Ginger Jam! Your comment has led us to debate our breakfast preserve offering and you will be pleased to know that we have now added Marmalade. Our beans will also be more closely monitored. Thanks again for your feedback, this is essential for us to know where we are doing well and could do better.

Their family rate is false advertising

Although we liked the atmosphere of the hostel, and found it fairly clean, we were very disappointed by their family rate policy. They advertise a family room at a rate of 88 GBP. However, when we arrived they said their family room was unavailable and we would have to pay per person to stay in a room that was exactly the same as the family room (so we ended up paying 120 GBP). However, the only other groups staying in the hostel at this time were tour buses of young adults - so we were the ONLY family in the hostel at this time. We were very disappointed that the hostel would not give us the family room rate given that were were the only family with young children at the hostel. The staff were unwillingly to discuss this.

Hostel response:

Thank-you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that there has been a misunderstanding with our room types and rates, and that we did not have any family rooms available on the night you stayed. Our family rooms are different to our dorms in that they have a double bed and bunks plus a private bathroom, they are charged per room (currently £81 per night), and are suitable for families of 3-5 people. These family rooms can be occupied by adults as well as families with children. Our dorm rooms are all single bunks and we sell the bunks individually. As you were travelling with young children the only option we could offer you was the purchase of all 6 beds in a 6-bed dorm to have the room private for your family. On quiet nights we can be flexible with pricing but you stayed on a busy night and you booked our last room which is why we had to stick to our regular rates. We have discussed your experience as a team and will ensure we are clearer with how we communicate our room pricing to any future families who are offered dorms as an alternative. Thank-you for providing this feedback, we need to know where we can do better so we can continue to offer Highland Hospitality at its best!
