Hostel Accommodation Helmsdale, Sutherland

Helmsdale Hostel Covid-19 statement:

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Helmsdale Hostel temporarily closed in March 2020 in line with national Government lockdown procedures. At the end of May, the Scottish Government announced tourist accommodation providers should prepare to reopen with a view to all accommodation being operational by 15 July 2020. Despite having achieved the ‘Good to Go’ status, due to the contagious nature of the virus, particularly within a small rural community, we made the decision to delay our reopening until 25 July 2020.

Over this period, we have been closely following the Scottish Government’s guidance and it is clear the virus remains highly contagious, with the potential to spread relatively quickly. Consequently, we feel it is the right decision to postpone the planned reopening of the hostel on 25 July 2020, in efforts to keep staff, guests and a small populated community safe.

Although we hope to reopen the hostel later this summer, we cannot at this stage, give a definitive date. However, realistically in line with Scottish Government’s advice in relation to maintaining strict precautions, we do not anticipate reopening before the end of August 2020.

This has been an extremely difficult decision for us to make and we sincerely hope guests are understanding of our reasons. Rest assured a warm welcome awaits when we do re-open our doors!

Fantastic Value accomodation and great manager

Reviewed on May 7, 2019

From the moment I walked through the door I loved this place. Marie the Manager is very friendly accommodating and understanding of anyone from anywhere. She’s very knowledgeable and has plenty of good recommendations if you’re interested. Newly refurbished this old school gymnasium is very clean and has modern dorms with ensuite bathroom and showers in addition to a new kitchen (no oven) and log burning stove to keep you nice and toasty warm. An extremely effective drying cupboard for drying out your clothes if the weather is poor. Outside is the secure bike store, washing line and a bench for chilling out and taking in the seaside air. I will definitely come again thank you again Marie for being so lovely. Craig
