Hostel Accommodation Abernethy, Cairngorms National Park

Nethy Station Bunkhouse Hostel for Groups

Groups only but, uniquely, you have no need to worry about no-shows, nor last minute extras, because you only pay for the beds that you use so your finances are not at risk. We will even refund you if you have overpaid which is popular with charity groups! This is basic accommodation at an affordable price and popular with those who want a Highland Lodge experience at a budget price. This old station offers all that a group of students, forces, schools or family groups could expect from a bunkhouse. Narnia, The Hobbits' Room and The Shed are becoming attraction in their own right! We share a car park with the Speyside Way and just yards from the River Nethy, leading down to the River Spey a mile away.

A wide range of group outdoor activities in Cairngorms National Park

Cycling, biking, skiing, snowboarding, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, white water rafting, gorge walking, zip wire, archery, rafting, hiking, mountaineering, abseiling, climbing, are just some of the activities available nearby! Landmark Forest Adventure Park is only a few miles away for a family theme park experience with its roller coaster and tree top trail. More gentle pursuits are available and you can tour the castles and attractions nearby. Sightseeing around Cawdor to Culloden; Glenfiddich to Glenlivet; Loch Ness to Lochindorb, all can be included in trips from Nethy Bridge. A day trip to Skye and Eilean Donan Castle where Highlander was filmed is popular, too. It is well-equipped, fully central heated and has two public areas and a good drying room. Most rooms have triple bunks. We now have 2 bunk rooms with outside access and no store room. We call it Narnia, as you can reach them through a wardrobe! We now also have 'The Shed', yes, it is a shed! Insulated and heated of course. Whether you self-cater, or we cook for you as a group, you will have access to the kitchen at all times.

Sole occupancy guaranteed

We never ask people to share the building so you may sleep, walk, ski, board, hike, ride, cycle, fish etc. at your own convenience always enjoying sole occupancy! The station is only 200 yards from the centre of Nethy Bridge with its shop, butcher, pub and ranger centre and is also half way between two wintersports areas

Dogs welcome

Dogs are welcome but please do not let them sleep on the beds!

We spent with a group of 25 people 6 days in Abernethy Bunkhouses and it was a wonderful time. The "staff" Richard and Patricia are wonderful and so very helpful. They made our stay comfortable and enjoyous. We recommend the hostel without any restriction.

Great group venue!

Great bunkhouse style accommodation for an ex Uni Mountaineering club trip - 20 years since graduation so its a mixed bag of spouses, partners, solos and children. Good mix of rooms allows a lot of flexibility for how to cater to the various needs of such a mixed bag. It's a bunkhouse so luxury not expected but what you get is comfy bunks, warmth, good facilities and the ability to have a very sociable time en mass. Kitchen and dining area is well equipped and the addition of a proper bar area and ability to order in a keg from Cairngorm Breweries is brilliant. We visited in November and never touched the drying rooms or washing machines which is a miracle, but really nice to know they were available for any dreicher visits. The place is quirky and full of character and the location is great for both the hills and being in walking distance of pubs, cafes etc for those that want them.
