Inveraray Hostel is located in a small town in the Southern Highlands of Scotland, amid fine scenery. We have 28 beds, and are open to travellers for 8 months of the year, with sole-use groups during the winter months. We have a range of possibilities. You could be resident at the hostel and work up to 5 days per week during the open season, with free accommodation during the winter season. Or you could do much of the work from a different location on a part-time basis, and visit the hostel at intervals.

The Smugglers Hostel is a lovely, small community run hostel in the village of Tomintoul, in the Cairngorms National Park. We are looking for trustworthy, sociable, hardworking and flexible volunteers with good spoken English. The work will involve helping to clean the hostel, occasional food preparation and greeting and checking in our guests.
Our volunteers can join us anytime from May to September and preferably stay at least one month, but longer may be possible. We ask for 24 hours work a week spread over 4 days. This work will involve weekends and some evenings and above all you need to be flexible as every day is different! You would have 3 free days each week to explore our beautiful surroundings and pursue your own interests. Outdoor activity opportunities are quite wonderful in this part of the highlands and wildlife is on our doorstep, as is the stunning landscape of the Cairngorm Mountains.
In return, you will be provided with a bed in a small dorm, your own secure locker, free Wifi, use of a bike and a daily breakfast. There is also a large kitchen and communal lounge for you to make use of. Family evening meals are also sometimes offered by the hostel manager and there is the opportunity for you to get involved with local events and make new friends.

Join us as a volunteer Summer Helper for any 2 month period between April and October. Or live in our new Lambing Bothy for any period from 2 months to 6 months, November to April and help us out as a volunteer Winter Helper. Couples are welcome. We ask for 24 flexi-hours a week over 6 days from can-do, self-propelled characters with a healthy work ethic and sense of humour. Help us light up this very popular, laid-back 6 acres of hostel, 3 off-grid huts and 4-pitch lightweight camping ground. You would need first class hostel cleaning and preparation skills, happily learn to help with 4 sheep and their lambs, 40 ducks and 12 hens.
We ask for your help in the garden, grounds and woodland and in simple maintenance tasks. We have a bike you may borrow and, possibly the best bit, May to October live in your own classic caravan close by the outdoor covered summer kitchen shared by all three Summer Helpers. Helpers are non smoking and provide their own food apart from Valery's home made bread and a share of the eggs when the hens are on form. Usually we eat Saturday breakfast together and spontaneous summer and other all year get togethers & BBQ's just happen.
