Smugglers Hostel, Cairngorms National Park - Volunteer Opportunities

The Smugglers Hostel is a lovely, small community run hostel in the village of Tomintoul, in the Cairngorms National Park. We are looking for trustworthy, sociable, hardworking and flexible volunteers with good spoken English. The work will involve helping to clean the hostel, occasional food preparation and greeting and checking in our guests.

Our volunteers can join us anytime from May to September and preferably stay at least one month, but longer may be possible. We ask for 24 hours work a week spread over 4 days. This work will involve weekends and some evenings and above all you need to be flexible as every day is different!  You would have 3 free days each week to explore our beautiful surroundings and pursue your own interests. Outdoor activity opportunities are quite wonderful in this part of the highlands and wildlife is on our doorstep, as is the stunning landscape of the Cairngorm Mountains.

Lazy Duck Hostel, Nethy Bridge, Cairngorms National Park: Volunteer Helpers

Join us as a volunteer Summer Helper for any 2 month period between April and October.  We ask for 24 flexi-hours a week over 6 days from can-do, self-propelled characters with a healthy work ethic and sense of humour. You will be helping us light up this very popular, laid-back 6 acres of hostel, off-grid huts and 4-pitch lightweight camping ground. You would need first class hostel cleaning and preparation skills, happily learn to manage 4 sheep and their lambs, 40 ducks and 12  hens.

Helpers are non smoking and provide their own food apart from Valery's home made bread and a share of the eggs when the hens are on form. Occasional together breakfasts and spontaneous BBQ's just happen.  You can use the hot outdoor bush shower. Please write telling us all about yourself, what you can do that we need help with, a recent photo and details of 3 referees to whom we can send our own reference request. Email David,  and look at
