Complaints

Our Members' establishments are inspected annually by VisitScotland's Quality Assurance Department. However, despite hostel owners’ best efforts, very occasionally things can go wrong.

If you have already complained to the hostel owner/manager, but would still like to take the complaint further, please contact our chairman Terry Hall, who will assure you that all complaints are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly in liaison with VisitScotland's QA Department.

The other board members

Our hardworking and very vibrant SIH Board of Directors are:

Terry Hall - SIH Chairman

Terry Hall is a retired Commercial Deep Sea Diver, who has worked in most of the Offshore Oilfields of the World. With his Norwegian wife Laila, they run the Dun Caan Hostel in Kyleakin, on the Isle of Skye and have done so for the past ten years.

Andrew Donaldson - SIH Vice Chairman.

Andrew is one of the employee owners at Comrie Croft Hostel. He's very happily married to Malize (sorry ladies!) and they have two wee boys. When he's not reading or writing emails for SIH he likes nothing better than doing anything involving mountains

Rosemary Samios - Secretary

Rosemary lives at Sydney, she's married to Jim, a lawyer. She takes the minutes by BT Conferencing. Rosemary was a physiotherapist in her previous incarnation. She owns Portree Independent Hostel and is a proud grandmother.

Davina Melton - SIH Treasurer

Owned Glencoe Independent Hostel since 2007 and is married to Keith (webmaster). Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant and worked as an accountant before moving to Glencoe.

Murdo Morrison  - Membership Secretary

Murdo owns and runs Bayfield Backpackers in Portree.

Paul Allan

Ayres Rock Hostel, Sanday, Orkney.  Relocated to Orkney 3 yrs ago and is hostel cook at ayres rock chip shop, a retained fire fighter, craft shop owner, labourer, island taxi driver, Coast Guard volunteer and group scout leader for Sanday.  When I've got time my hobbies include power kite flying and wind surfing.  Married with two children.
